Feasibility of Age Friendly City : Focused on the analysis of the Ordinance of Welfare for the Older Adult in Seoul

Abstract

|
The purpose of this study is to explore the feasibility of WHO’s age-friendly city by analyzing the Ordinance of Welfare for the Older Adult in Seoul, which is made for actualizing age-friendly city Seoul. WHO(2007) provides a guideline of global age-friendly city. All Chapter 2 and part of Chapter 3 of the Ordinance of Welfare for the Older Adult in Seoul were analyzed and compared based on the WHO’s guideline. Evaluation and analysis were conducted and implemented by a specialist for elderly welfare and a researcher. Results revealed that although Seoul’s Ordinance reflects all 8 domains of WHO’s guideline, it did not show the feasibility concretely. Although the Ordinance should provide concrete directions like rules and orders, the Ordinance of Seoul just covers content of WHO’s guideline in an abstract level. That is, the Ordinance does not provide specific items in order to actualize an age-friendly city Seoul. Based on the results, detailed countermeasures for developing and supplementing plan of an age friendly city Seoul were discussed.
